Hortus Loci is a new nursery based in Hampshire, which is sourcing the highest quality stock of all sizes – from annuals to semi-mature trees – for prestigious landscape projects, Chelsea show gardens and well known landscape architects and designers. They are containerising rootballed stock in Air-Pot containers, and buying in Air-Pot grown stock from other Air-Pot customers in the UK and Europe.

In light of close association with the Royal Botanic Gardens, Edinburgh as a course lecturer and consultant on a new venture in Oman, Jamie Single was invited to submit a paper on the importance of developing a good root structure for the establishment and healthy growth of trees & shrubs planted in the landscape.

INNO SPV 2010 prize

Santa & Cole Tree Nursery Division awarded an INNO SPV 2010 prize.

The Air-Pot growing system, adopted by Santa & Cole Forestal, was awarded 2nd prize in the best non-plant product category at the SPV (Plant Garden and Complements Fair). This annual event, now in its 10th year, was held in September and is run by Fira de Girona and the Association of Nursery Owners of Girona to showcase the latest trends and new products in the gardening sector.


Trafalgar Square Maze

The new Trafalgar Square Maze has been hitting the headlines.

Part of the famous Central London landscape turned lustrous green overnight with the installation of mature hedging grown by Northamptonshire based Rentahedge. The company grows mature hedging for permanent planting and temporary schemes using Air-Pot troughs, specifically designed for the production of consistent and vigorous hedging to create an instant impact and re-establish instantly in the landscape.

The plants grown for the Maze were Prunus Rotundifolia and they were delivered to site in purpose built metal planters. Other hedges for such mazes are Buxus Semp and Thuja Plicata.

Scottish-made Air-Pots have been put to a novel use in a prototype gantry-mounted tree-cultivation system that is being trialled in the Netherlands.
