A
team of two founder members - Jamie and Suzie Single
- set up the Caledonian Tree Company in 1990, when
we moved to Edinburgh from Australia.
After
qualifying at Ryde School of Horticulture in Sydney
and training at Kew Gardens in London, Jamie first
came across the Australian root control system in 1986.
At the time he was a landscape designer trying to source
quality plant material. He was impressed by what he
saw, became very interested in the theory behind root
manipulation and enhancement and was hooked.
We believe that quality matters and that it shouldn't
cost. From the outset, the company's mission has been
to develop products that improve plant quality and to
work with growers to introduce systems that deliver quality
practically and competitively. Product development in
conjunction with growers is one of the most satisfying
areas of the business and is an on-going process.
Manufacture of both the Superoots Air-Pot and Fielder
is in Scotland, near Edinburgh. The company has a factory
in one of the former warehouses of the Lady Victoria
Colliery, which ceased its operations in the 1980's.
Fortunately, there is enough space to expand as the business
continues to grow within the UK, Europe and particularly
in the USA.
Protection of the environment is a driving force behind
our product development. The Air-Pot wall is made of
100% recycled HDPE and can be re-used. Our new biodegradable
delivery system will be an extension of this, which will
enable Air-Pot and Fielder grown trees and shrubs to
leave the nursery with no waste products. |
