Dr. Piero Frangi of the Minoprio Foundation spoke of the importance of the quality of plants and their root systems as a key factor for successful cultivation. A root system in a container without spiralling promotes better germination and further development. Plants grown in an air-pot®,a recyclable/reusable plastic container that actively enhances the quality of the root systems of plants (www.airpotgarden.com) showed an above average vegetative growth and survival rate.

Hortus Loci is a new nursery based in Hampshire, which is sourcing the highest quality stock of all sizes – from annuals to semi-mature trees – for prestigious landscape projects, Chelsea show gardens and well known landscape architects and designers. They are containerising rootballed stock in Air-Pot containers, and buying in Air-Pot grown stock from other Air-Pot customers in the UK and Europe.

Quando si parla di innovazione e prodotti naturali il primo pensiero corre agli OGM. In realtà la storia di Air pot e del convegno tenutosi a Canneto sull'Oglio (MN) nello scorso giugno racconta di una ricerca continua mirata all’individuazione di nuove tecniche di coltivazione che rispettino l’ambiente. Per un giorno (giovedì 16 giugno 2011) la capitale del distretto vivaistico mantovano ha accolto esperti di quattro Paesi europei che si sono incontrati per discutere dell'importanza del sistema di coltivazione per ottenere piante sane e vigorose, per un'immediata ripresa vegetativa dopo il trapianto.

Good roots matter from day one

In light of close association with the Royal Botanic Gardens, Edinburgh as a course lecturer and consultant on a new venture in Oman, Jamie Single was invited to submit a paper on the importance of developing a good root structure for the establishment and healthy growth of trees & shrubs planted in the landscape.

This article appeared in the Journal of Botanic Garden of Horticulture, Sibbaldia No. 8.

Santa & Cole Tree Nursery Division awarded an INNO SPV 2010 prize.

The Air-Pot growing system, adopted by Santa & Cole Forestal, was awarded 2nd prize in the best non-plant product category at the SPV (Plant Garden and Complements Fair). This annual event, now in its 10th year, was held in September and is run by Fira de Girona and the Association of Nursery Owners of Girona to showcase the latest trends and new products in the gardening sector.

The new Trafalgar Square Maze has been hitting the headlines.

Part of the famous Central London landscape turned lustrous green overnight with the installation of mature hedging grown by Northamptonshire based Rentahedge. The company grows mature hedging for permanent planting and temporary schemes using Air-Pot troughs, specifically designed for the production of consistent and vigorous hedging to create an instant impact and re-establish instantly in the landscape.

The plants grown for the Maze were Prunus Rotundifolia and they were delivered to site in purpose built metal planters. Other hedges for such mazes are Buxus Semp and Thuja Plicata.

On 7 July last the second TED^x Barcelona event took place... Among the speakers in this programme, Josep Selga, a biologist, specialist in urban arboriculture and Publisher of Santa & Cole Tree Nursery Division, presented Air-Pots™, reinventing tree-growing, a talk on how to grow trees which can be planted in the city and which are developed optimally in an anthropic environment.
